AREA Attracts International Students

Korean Students at the Graduation on June 2nd

A group of Korean Racing Authority (KRA) students recently completed studies with the Australian Racing and Equine Academy (AREA).

In what is hoped to be the first of many international programs run by the nation’s leading training provider, the Korean students graduated after several weeks of training.

Topped off with on-the-job work experience, the overall program will benefit the Korean Internationals.

“This group of students are from the ‘Lets Run Foundation’ which was launched by the Korean Racing Authority, which is a corporate strategy used with 16 percent of its gross turnover,” AREA Training Manager, Karlie Triffitt said.

“The program has seen similar groups of Korean students undertaking equine studies in a several nations around the world and AREA was selected to host the first group.”

A graduation ceremony was held for the 10 students at the College on June 2nd, with students receiving a Certificate II Stablehand certificate after an intensive 12-week study program that culminated with four weeks work experience with trainers and stables in the Hawkesbury region, on the north western fringe of Sydney.

The training was undertaken at the Academy’s Richmond College, which houses a state of the art indoor riding arena, a 600 metre sand track, a fully equipped farriery shop, stables and modern classroom facilities.

Through the course students were provided with riding, horse massage, fitness training and English language support, as per the KRA Global Internship Program requirements.

Course work and English language support was also factored into their work experience.

All graduates secured jobs from Godolphin, Heritage Park (Tim Martin), Princes Farm (Anthony & Edward Cummings), Chris Waller Racing, Peter Robl and Jason Coyle Racing.

The Australian Racing and Equine Academy is the industry leader for education and training in Racing – offering National Qualifications in vocations such as Stablehand, Trackwork Rider, Jockey, Racehorse Trainer, and, much more.
